Unlimited Performance 5K Run 2010 The 3rd annual Unlimited Performance Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine 5K Charity Run/Walk attracted 279 runners and walkers June 5, despite the rain. The 3.1-mile event was Unlimited Performance’s most successful run in the three-year history of the race. Race proceeds of $4,265 are being matched by Kishwaukee Community Hospital for a total donation of $8,530 to the DeKalb County American Red Cross.
Overall winner was Steven Winkowski of Sycamore with a time of 17:32. Overall female winner was Jaimie Towle of Somonauk who finished 19th overall with a time of 21:21. This was the second consecutive year that Towle was the overall female winner. Although the event was very competitive for a number of runners, it was also meant for individuals to test their personal fitness abilities. Runners ranged in age from 7 to 71 and all received a goody bag and t-shirt prior to the run and were treated to post race food, water, stretching, massage, several raffle prizes, and awards. “The local community was very generous with financial sponsorships, product donations, time and effort that allowed us to present age group awards, raffle prizes and post race food and drink for all competitors and the approximately 50 volunteers,” said Chris Laurent, Unlimited Performance athletic trainer and race organizer. “Due to the strong support we get from both the local community and Kishwaukee Community Hospital, we have been able to make this event very successful. For this, the staff at Unlimited Performance thanks all those who helped. The race has doubled in the number of participants over the past two years and despite the rainy weather this year, we are very pleased about the direction this event has taken,” Chris said. Bill McMahon, of The Lincoln Inn Family Restaurant, DeKalb, contacted Chris after the race and wrote, “Awesome job on Saturday! Great turnout, awesome course (I prefer the new route), excellent volunteer support, great post race, and great raffle prizes (both my boys are very excited about what they won!). My boys enjoyed the run so much, we are going to Malta this weekend for their 5K! You really have done a great job with your race!”
